Route 36: Ohio to Colorado – America’s Heartland Highway. | Submitted

The next meeting of the Knox County Historical Society will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Historical Society Museum, 875 Harcourt Road in Mount Vernon, on Route 36.

The program will be presented by Allan Ferguson of Denver, Colorado, who will relate the story of U.S. Route 36. The highway begins in Uhrichsville, Ohio, and ends at the Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, Colorado, passing through Knox County along the way. His illustrated presentation includes many points of interest along the 1,414-mile highway, which are also included in his recently published book, Route 36: Ohio to Colorado – America’s Heartland Highway.

The meeting and program are free and open to the public, and all persons interested in local history are encouraged to attend. Join us on June 1 to “get your kicks on Route 36!” For more information, call the museum at 740-393-5247.
