On May 11, students at Fredericktown Elementary School held an annual event to display science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) projects.

"For example, in the third-grade class, each student makes a 3-D model of a business in Fredericktown," fifth-grade teacher Colleen Gregg told the Mount Vernon News. "The fourth-grade class does a model of a Native American village. The fifth-grade class did the solar system. Kindergarteners did a timeline of their lives."

The public was invited to view the projects.

"The family, the community members of Fredericktown came in, took a stroll through the different displays by the different classes," Gregg said. "It was well attended. You get grandparents, parents, families coming in. It's a great community time. The kids have really worked hard on these projects. Without this event, they would just be bringing them in and sharing them with their classmates. This way, they get to show them off a little bit."

Families don't "make a beeline" to view their child's project, said Gregg.

"They go around the look at all of them," she said. "The students do, too. For example, my fifth-grade students went around the looked at all the other projects from the other grades levels."

The fifth-grade band also held a concert before the Night at the Museum event.

"It was a big crowd," Gregg said. "We filled the entire gym."

Fredericktown Elementary, which encompasses grades K-5, is in the same building as the middle school and high school, just in separate wings.
