JOHNSTOWN – Northridge seniors in a service learning class will host a Color Run at Northridge on Saturday, May 14, with profits going toward the purchase of a victory bell for the stadium.

The district’s impending stadium renovation project provided an opportunity for this group of soon-to-be alumni to tangibly represent their time at Northridge. There will be a Youth Fun Run (ages 13 and under) from 2 to 3 p.m. and 2-mile run for ages 14 and up starting at 3 p.m.

This is the second major event for seniors Connor Everts and Gage Sloan, who planned and executed a “Polar Plunge” event to benefit the school’s Viking EXChange, a space dedicated to the free exchange of Viking spirit wear and other clothing items. Exceeding their fundraising goal in the fall by more than $400, the pair wanted to go bigger this spring and submitted a proposal to Open Roads Renewables to serve as the Color Run corporate sponsor.

“For us, this (event) would mean playing a  vital role in giving back to the community that’s given us so much during our education,” they wrote in their proposal.

With a corporate sponsor onboard and a goal to raise $3,000, the class got to work  planning the Color Run, in partnership with the Northridge Athletic Boosters.

“It is always great to work with the students on an event and to offer them the opportunity to  have hands-on experiences where they can directly see the result of their hard work,” said Teri Holder, Athletic Boosters officer. “This stadium project will benefit student-athletes and the community for years to come, and it will be great for this group of students to have something physically located in the stadium to commemorate their time at Northridge and, more specifically, the Color Run project.”

The service learning class was designed to give upperclassmen a showcase for what they've learned throughout their education.

Registration is open for the Color Run through the Northridge Athletic Booster Facebook page or a link through the QR Code. Questions or additional information, contact Teri Holder at 740-403-6593.
