MOUNT VERNON – Everett T. “Buddy” Gasbarro, 63, of Mount Vernon passed away on Monday evening, March 14, 2022, at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. He was admitted for treatment for acute myeloid leukemia and also volunteered to participate in a medical trial.

Everett was born Sept. 29, 1958, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to William R. and Jeanne F. (Dorsey) Gasbarro. Soon after graduating from high school, Buddy pursued a career in the culinary arts as a short order cook, sous chef, chef and ultimately as the head chef of the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood, Alaska. He moved back to Mount Vernon to help take care of his mom and continued working in the restaurant industry. Through the years, he also did industrial recycling and maintained an online retail store. In 2019, he recommitted his life to Jesus Christ and became a member of the Mount Vernon Faith Lutheran Church. He served on Church Council and assumed multiple responsibilities on behalf of the church. He especially enjoyed caring for his “sweeties,” the elderly of his church, by providing transportation and serving communion for shut-ins. He also enjoyed maintaining Faith Lutheran’s New Testament Stone Garden.
