MOUNT VERNON – Glenn R. Murphy, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday afternoon, April 10, 2022, at home. He was born on Jan. 24, 1940, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to the late Ernest and Nora (Helton) Murphy.
Glenn honorably served his country in the Army, serving 28 years and earning the rank of staff sergeant. He retired from Matlack Trucking. Glenn was a member of the Teamsters Local 413, AmVets Post 95, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2555 and Lodge 824.
Glenn is survived by his children, Dennis (Della) Murphy, Frederick Murphy, Glenn Roger (Denise) Murphy, Vicki Stokes, Glendora (Anthony) Meyer and Shelley Tanner; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; stepchildren, Edward (Cindy) Oakes, Thomas (Tammy) Oakes, Daniel Oakes and Patricia Oakes; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Christina Marie (Albert) Murphy; a son, Patrick Murphy; a daughter, Sherry Renicker; grandsons, Dennis W. “Peewee” Murphy and Timothy “TJ” Stokes; stepdaughter, Katherine Delong; step grandson, Jeffrey Zedacker; sisters, Ernestine Fox, Bridgett Nickles, Patsy Murphy, Lorraine Hudson and Elizabeth Hobbs; and brothers, Ted Murphy, James “Jimmy” Murphy, Leon “Buck” Murphy and Freddie Murphy.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 18, in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dan Oakes officiating.
