BELLVILLE – Marilyn Marie Van Houten, 89, of Bellville passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness.
The daughter of Hugh and Novella (Divelbiss) Swank, Marilyn was born in Bellville on April 29, 1932, and graduated from Bellville High School in 1950. On July 9, 1951, she married Edward Van Houten.
Marilyn worked in the claims department for Celina Insurance, retiring in 1993 after 20 years.
She was a loving grandma. Marilyn enjoyed golfing, especially league play at Little Apple Golf Course in Bellville. Social and outgoing, Marilyn always looked forward to playing cards each week. She usually played euchre and 500. Marilyn also enjoyed bowling. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and Richland County Fair Board Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Vonda (Bruce) Robinson of Fredericktown; daughters-in-law Sandy Van Houten and Jeanne Van Houten both of Bellville; grandchildren John(Sylvia) Robinson, Amy (Andrew) Seward, Drew Van Houten and DJ Van Houten; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Van Houten, Sr.; sons Douglas Van Houten, Edward “Spanky” Van Houten and Dennis “Denny” Van Houten; and infant great-grandson Jack Robinson.
A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, April 13, from 2 - 4 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson Township Rescue Squad, 470 South Main St., Bellville, OH 44813, or charity of the donor’schoice.
