Fredericktown Local Schools will induct six new members to its Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor May 6, Chris Well, one of the organizers told the Mount Vernon News.
The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. in the high school gymnasium, said Well, a retired Fredericktown teacher.
"The induction is open to the public, plus our seniors and National Honor Society will be joining us, as well as invited guests," she said.
Past inductees include several inventors, authors, company presidents and engineers, Well said.
"So the six new inductees will be joining a prestigious group," she said.
This will be the first induction ceremony since 2019, with the 2020 and 2021 events canceled because of COVID-19, Well said.
This year's inductees are photographer Chad Moore; Matthew Erick, Chief Commercial Office/ Advanced Markets of Biocon Biologics; journalist John Long; retired Lt. Col. Steve Moore; former State Rep. Margaret Ann Ruhl; and Henry Streby, professor of ecology at the University of Toledo.
The Hall of Honor was launched a decade ago.
"There's a wall as you go inside the high school that has the pictures of the inductees and some of the highlights of their careers," Well said. "We'll be adding six more to that."
Many Fredericktown residents move away for careers but then retire back here, Well said.
"I think they just like to get away from the hustle and bustle," she said.
But now even younger residents are moving back as well.
"What I'm seeing a lot is now is kids that I taught in school, now that they are married and having children, they are coming back here because they want their kids to have the experience of Fredericktown," said Well.
