FREDERICKTOWN – Floyd D. Payne, 97, of Fredericktown, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at Country Court Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 10, 1924, in Fredericktown, the son of Clarence and Bernice (Hawkins) Payne. Floyd was a 1942 graduate of Fredericktown High School and proudly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. 

Floyd owned and operated Payne Plumbing and Electric as a general contractor for many years. He was a member of the Middlebury Grange, Colonial City Moose Lodge #2555, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4027, American Legion of Mount Vernon, Amvets Post #95, Fraternal Eagles Lodge #760, and Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias of Ohio. Floyd and his late wife Bethel enjoyed many evenings dancing, playing dartball and socializing with friends, but most important was the quality time they spent with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Floyd is survived by his children; Robert (Margaret Sherer) Payne of Fredericktown, Debra Mobley of Butler and Deryl (Eny) Payne of Fredericktown; 11 grandchildren, Carl (Stacy) Payne, Autumn Bachelder, Shad (Colleen) Nye, Monique (Todd) Nye-Grueser, Ty (Allison) Nye, Pink Payne, Pilar Payne, Wyatt Payne, Ringo Payne, Lisa Siegfried, Michael (Nicole) Sherer, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Bethel (Woolridge) Payne, an infant daughter, Sally Payne, twin brother, Lloyd Payne and a son-in-law, David Mobley.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home of Fredericktown, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown, OH 43019, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Patrick Bailey will be officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Floyd’s name may be made to the Middlebury Grange.
