MOUNT VERNON – Central Ohio Greenways created the Central Ohio Trail Survey to find out what value Mount Vernon and Knox County residents place on the Ohio to Erie Trail and on biking and walking trails in general.
The Ohio to Erie Trail covers 326 miles from the Ohio River to Lake Erie. Across central Ohio, it incorporates the Kokosing Gap, Heart of Ohio, Alum Creek, Roberts Pass, Prairie Grass and Downtown Connector trails, a city spokesperson said.
Residents and businesses in Mount Vernon, Centerburg, Sunbury and London are being asked to share what value they attach to trails and when they visit them. Central Ohio Greenways, which is part of the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, wants to know how they feel local agencies maintain the trails, and if trail connectivity across the region can be improved.
The organization also wants members of civic and youth groups, health and tourism groups and education officials take the 25-question survey.
The trails are heavily utilized according to previous survey. Central Ohio trails log approximately 12 million miles annually on the trails. Regional planners said walking and biking trails have positive economic impacts, improve the overall health of local residents and add value to a community, the city spokesperson said.
The online survey will be open until March 10. All answers will be kept confidential.
