Mount Vernon Babe Ruth League registration set for Saturday
There are only three dates left to register for 2022 Babe Ruth League baseball. The Mount Vernon Babe Ruth Association, doing business as Knox Babe Ruth League of Knox County, has scheduled in-person registration for 13- to 16-year olds at the Babe Ruth field announcer’s booth at Memorial Park on Mount Vernon Avenue.
Registration dates include:
Saturday, Feb. 19, noon-2 p.m.
Thursday, Feb 24, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
And the last day for registration:
Saturday, March 5, noon-2 p.m.
New player tryouts will take place Saturday, Mar. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Cougar men shut out by Midway in tennis, women fall to pair of opponents
The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s and women’s tennis teams came up empty last weekend in Kentucky.
The men’s squad was defeated by Midway University on Saturday in Richmond. The match was the last one on the Kentucky trip for MVNU, and the Cougars fell by a score of 7-0. Ben Kindberg and Ryan Wolfe fought hard but ultimately fell in their 5-7 defeat to their Midway University opponents.
On the women’s side, the MVNU women’s tennis team was defeated by 16th-ranked University of the Cumberlands, 7-0, and by Midway, 4-3.
Hailey Clayborn and Audrey Cochran won their doubles match against their Midway opponents by a score of 7-5. Emma Harville and Hannah Fugate took their match against Midway by a score of 6-3. Emily Allison defeated her Midway singles’ opponent with scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
Lords blanked by Maroons, Ladies lose to Case Western
In a tough tennis weekend for Kenyon, the Lords were swept by the University of Chicago Maroons 9-0, and the Ladies were topped by Case Western Reserve University, 6-3.
Playing at a neutral-site courts in the Indianapolis Racquet Club on Saturday, the Kenyon College men’s tennis team could not keep pace with the Maroons from the University of Chicago, who posted a 9-0 dual match victory. The Lords, now 1-1, will compete again next Saturday when they head to Fredericksburg, Va., to compete in the University of Mary Washington Invitational.
In a regional dual, Kenyon fell to Case Western Reserve University, 6-3. The loss brings the Ladies to 1-1 overall on the year.
Playing in the No. 1 doubles spot,Kenyon's Daria Beshentseva and Eleni Dakos defeated Lily McCloskey and Hannah Kassaie, 8-7.
On the singles side, Beshentseva matched up against McCloskey in singles action, taking the match 6-4,6-2, and Dakos conquered Savannah Bright 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 in a three-set match.
