MOUNT VERNON – Water/wastewater customers in Mount Vernon soon will have the option to go paperless to pay their utility bills starting on Feb. 22.
The new feature will allow them to make a secure payment or check their balance online. They will call a number or access the InvoiceCloud system via text messaging.
“They also can sign up to receive text notifications about when their bills are due,” Mayor Matt Starr told the Mount Vernon News.
The little reminder will tell residents if they haven’t paid their bill, how much is owed and when it is due.
“So that's a nice little nice little feature to have,” he said.
Automatic monthly bill payment withdrawals from customers’ credit or debit cards also can be set up.
The Utility Billing Office hopes to increase customer satisfaction with the new features, Kristen Goldner, a billing and customer service clerk in the City’s Water & Wastewater Department, said.
“Increasing the self-service options and making our online portal more user-friendly will enhance the overall customer experience,” she said.
Residents using the existing portal on the city’s website to pay their bills will need to set up an account on the new portal after Feb. 22.
If a customer already uses auto-pay, nothing more will need to be done. They can still send a check for payment in the mail or stop by the Utility Billing Office during business hours.
Beginning on Feb. 22, customers can visit the city website at mountvernonohio.org to set up an account for paperless billing. Click on the “Online Services” drop-down menu at the top of the page and scroll down to “Water.”
Residents also may call the Utility Billing Office at 740-393-9504 to get set up, or if they have any questions.
Starr said he and Safety-Service Director Rick Dzik hope offering more options for customers in transactions will make doing business with the city easier.
