MOUNT VERNON – At the Center for Pediatric Rehabilitation, doctors work with children to help them reach their maximum potential, collaborating with the family to improve a child’s ability to move safely and independently in their home, school and community.
Pediatric physical therapy can involve helping infants learn gross motor skills such as rolling, sitting, crawling and walking. Some of the conditions they treat include torticollis, positional plagiocephaly, low muscle tone and gross motor delays. In addition, specially trained therapists work with older children to help improve strength, balance and coordination so they can learn to run, jump, safely go up and downstairs, and learn to catch and throw balls.
According to Debbie Link, Director of the Center for Rehabilitation and Wellness, “Physical therapy is not just for adults. Many children of all ages are dealing with injuries or recovery from an illness, and youngsters need physical therapy that’s specialized for their growing bodies.” Some of the conditions the center’s therapists assist with include concussion, broken bones, sprains, autism, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome and any other diagnoses interfering with a child’s ability to move and function independently.
The Center for Pediatric Rehabilitation is located at 1220 Yauger Road in Mount Vernon. For more information about the Center for Pediatric Rehabilitation, call 740-393-1144 or visit kch.org/center-pediatric-rehabilitation.
