Knox County Health Commissioner Julie Miller received the Beulah Apostolic Award during the 19th annual Knox County Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast.

The virtual event was held Jan. 17 and was sponsored by Kenyon College, Mount Vernon and the Knox County MLK Legacy Committee.

The Beulah Apostolic Award is presented annually to an individual from the Knox County community who exemplifies the characteristics of servant leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in their everyday lives and work, a press release said. The MLK Legacy Committee presented the award to Miller for her leadership at Knox Public Health, especially during the pandemic and for her personal and professional interest in working with individuals in poverty to improve health outcomes, homelessness and workforce development.

In addition to being health commissioner for the past 11 years, Miller is a member and volunteer with the Winter Sanctuary Homeless Shelter Board of Trustees. She also serves as an executive member of the Knox Substance Abuse Action Team and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the YMCA of Knox County and the New Directions Domestic Violence Shelter.
