No. 2-ranked Lady Pirates continue to roll, 57-35 over Trojans

The Cardington-Lincoln Lady Pirates are ranked No. 2 in the AP poll for Ohio Div. III schools, and they played like it Wednesday night at Centerburg with a 57-35 victory.

The win was the 51st consecutive regular-season win and 65th straight KMAC victory for Cardington-Lincoln, which is 13-0 this season and 9-0 in KMAC. Centerburg fell to 1-11 on the season and 0-8 in KMAC.

The Lady Pirates took an 18-10 first-quarter lead on scoring from five girls. Kambry Edwards nailed two 3-pointers, and Beth Hardwick scored five in the quarter for C-L. The Lady Trojans got balanced scoring from four players in the first.

Centerburg cut the lead to six at the half, 28-22 as Chloe Goulter responded with seven points in the second, and Kennedi Glenn sank a rainbow three (her second of the game). Cardington’s Mikayla Linkous scored five, and Karsyn Edwards connected on a three for the Lady Pirates.

During recent games, C-L has been methodical in the first half and has put the game away in the third quarter, and this game fit that blueprint, as it outscored Centerburg 15-5 in the third to take a 43-27 lead. Hardwick led the C-L attack with nine, and Kambry Edwards sank her third three and a deuce in the quarter. Avery Glenn nailed a three and Stella Weisbrod a two for all of the Lady Trojans’ third-quarter points.

The fourth was time to take care of business, and C-L did that with a 14-8 tally. Kambry Edwards netted her fourth three and five points to pace five C-L scorers in the frame. Kennedi Glenn and Alyssa Harris each drained a fourth-quarter three for Centerburg.

For the game, Kambry Edwards was high scorer with 16 points for C-L, followed by Hardwick with 14, as eight Lady Pirates shared in the offensive show. Goulter hit for nine, including 5-for-5 at the foul line, and Kennedi Glenn scored nine on three from 3-point range to lead the Lady Trojans.

Before the game, the current AP writers’ poll for Ohio Div. III schools showed Cardington-Lincoln at No. 2. The Lady Pirates were No. 3 last week and find themselves behind only Wheelersburg. The Wheelersburg team, also called the Pirates, received nine first place votes, and the C-L Lady Pirates received four.

MaxPreps has C-L No. 22 in Ohio among all schools this week and No. 4 in Division III behind Purcell Marian, Waynedale and Wheelersburg.
