Cardington-Lincoln rolls on with 73-48 win over East Knox
The Cardington-Lincoln Lady Pirates victory train continued as C-L romped over East Knox, 73-48, on Jan. 8.
The 25-point victory added to the Lady Pirates' win streaks, which now sit at 12-0 this season and 8-0 in KMAC play, and run the C-L locomotive to 50 consecutive regular-season wins and 64 straight victories in the KMAC.
C-L started slowly with a 10-point first quarter, but it revved up for 19 in the second, 22 in the third and 22 more in the fourth.
In the first, C-L took a 10-5 lead on threes from Mikayla Linkous and Karsyn Edwards. In the second, EK put up 11, thanks to three deuces from Alexandria Magers, but Beth Hardwick put in seven in the second as C-L took a 29-16 lead at the half.
Edwards led the way with 11 points in the third for the Lady Pirates, who expanded the lead to 51-26.
Laura Keith sank three threes in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs, but Hardwick drained two threes as C-L saw scoring from six Pirates in the quarter.
Cardington-Lincoln has now outscored its opponents 742-433 this season. These 73 points were led by Edwards with 18, Linkous with 17, Hardwick with 15 and Dana Bertke with 10. East Knox was paced by Keith with 17, Magers with 16 and Shanda Melick with 13.
Bertke had a solid all-around game and grabbed 11 rebounds. Edwards pulled down seven boards, Bertke handed off seven assists, as did Kambry Edwards, and Karsyn Edwards added six and five steals. Linkous had four steals.
Danville pulls away in third quarter to down Northmor, 60-53
The Blue Devils started strong in the first, were caught in the second and took the lead for good in the third to defeat Northmor, 60-53, Jan. 8.
Danville saw seven points from Ella Proper in the first, as five Blue Devils scored. Northmor got two threes from Brooklyn Dennison in the first.
Northmor scored 21 in the second to tie the score at 30-30 on balanced scoring from six players.
In the third, Reagan Swihart scored five of the Knights' seven points. Danville put 14 points through the nets in the quarter, with Proper getting six.
In the fourth, Swihart hit two threes and four other girls scored from the field for Northmor, whose 16 points were matched by Danville, who spread scoring among five girls.
For the game, Danville was led by Proper with 19. Brooklynn Hess had 12, and Kylee Hess scored 11. Northmor got 15 points from Swihart and 12 from Brooklyn Dennison to lead the scoring.
Danville improved to 9-4, 6-2 KMAC and Northmor dropped to 7-6, 4-4 KMAC.
Low-scoring game favors Freddies over Indians, 40-27
In a game that was close due to good defense and a lack of scoring, Fredericktown (9-5, 5-3 KMAC) got the better of Mount Gilead (4-7, 1-6 KMAC), 40-27.

Grace Sipes scored five and Cally Carpenter hit a three for the Freddies, who took the low 14-11 lead at the half. Balanced scoring from five girls put 15 points on the board for Fredericktown in the third to advance to a 29-19 lead after three. Faith White put in five of the Indians’ eight points in the third.
In the fourth, Fredericktown scored 11 points, divided among four scorers, and Mount Gilead’s eight points in the fourth were spread among five girls.
The Freddies’ five scorers were led by Sipes with 15 and Carpenter with nine.
Mount Gilead was led by White and Thomas with seven points each.
Centerburg starts hot, grows cold in loss to Scots, 42-23
Centerburg (1-10, 0-7 KMAC) scored 13 points in the first quarter but only 10 the rest of the way as Highland (3-8, 2-5 MOAC) was only slightly more prolific and took a 19-point victory.
Chloe Goulter scored six, and Kayla Larimore added four in the first, but Highland still took a 4-point lead on four threes – two by Guinevere Jackson and one each by Makayla Woods and Abby Jordan. The second quarter saw only eight points total, and Highland took a 21-17 lead at the half.
As Centerburg could only put up a pair of field goals in the third, Highland took control with 13 points divided among five scorers.
The Lady Trojans scored only a lone bucket in the fourth, and Highland countered with eight points, six from Emma West.
West was the only Flying Scots player in double figures and finished with 12. Goulter finished with 10 points to lead the Lady Trojans
