BRINKHAVEN – Herbert Orville “Herb” Gardner, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 31, 1940, in Millersburg to the late Charles Albert and Garnet Frances (Mowery) Gardner. He married Nancy Lee (Fath) Gardner on Sept. 18, 1965, who preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2006. He worked as a truck driver for Cuddy Farms for 31 years, loved to play softball and going out to eat and spending time with his companion, Carol, and her dog, “Ruddy.” Together, they enjoyed going to Wingate in St. Clairsville for New Year’s.
Herb was the owner and operator of Gardner Roofing for 30 years and the former manager of the Danville Merchants and Mohican Inn. He served on Brinkhaven Village Council for 16 years. He was a member of the Brinkhaven United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge of Mount Vernon, Killbuck V.F.W. Post #7079, the American Legion of Danville and Loudonville, and Loudonville Eagles Aerie #2275.
He is survived by a son, Larry Gardner of Brinkhaven; sisters-in-law, Betty Schiebe of New Albany, Ind., Kay Huffman of Loudonville, Becky Ausburger of Millersburg and Robin King of Loudonville; brothers-in-law, Bill Fath of Millersburg and Mike Fath of Charlotte, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his companion of 13 years, Carol Hall; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Naioma Jean; a sister-in-law, Pat Bender; and a brother-in-law, Larry Fath.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Face masks are required for visitors. Burial with military honors will follow in Killbuck Cemetery. www.fischerfuneralhome.com.
