DANVILLE – Larry Lee Hashman, Sr, 79, passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 21, 2021.
He was born Aug. 22, 1942, in Mount Vernon to Arthur and Evelyn (Stull) Hashman.
During his life, he had many business ventures. He sold trirod motorcycles, he and his brother Jim were both barbers and he enjoyed setting up and selling various items at flea markets (especially at the Kenton Nationals, where he always returned with hilarious and interesting stories). Most of his life, he was a truck driver, traveling all over the U.S. After retiring, he found great joy and made lifelong friends driving the Amish. He was so thankful for the amazing friendship with Reuben Weaver and his family. The hunting stories with them were such great memories.
He was a member of the Grand Lodge F&AM of Ohio #199 of Bladensburg and Commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a life sponsor of the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, a member of Kam Ram Grotto of Mount Vernon, Baldwin Shrine Club of Mount Vernon, Danville Legion Post #650 and past Master of the former Danville Lodge #546. He was a U.S. Army and National Guard veteran. He was also a member of AMVETS of Mount Vernon.
Larry loved his family above all else. He loved laughter and telling jokes. Those who knew Larry would tell you that he loved guns and target shooting, loved people and especially loved his cat, Tillie.
Larry really enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone and telling stories. He would help anyone in need and had great pride in his community and loved being involved. He was a loyal OSU and Nebraska football fan.
Larry was also an amazing woodworker and found great enjoyment making beautiful wood crafts in his workshop.
Larry enjoyed being retired and traveling with his wife to various places and restaurants, chatting it up with total strangers. He especially loved traveling to Nebraska to visit family and friends. He always seemed to leave people better off for simply having met him.
To meet Larry was to love him. He was strong, proud, loving and kind. He was a real “humdinger”! As he left this world, his only concern was those he was leaving behind, not that he was dying. Because that is who he was. A selfless, wonderful man who will be extremely missed. One of the last things that he said repeatedly to his family was that he was thankful for having lived such a good life with them. May we all leave this world with that same feeling and may it comfort all those mourning his death.
Larry is survived by his wife, Paula (Lindekugel) Hashman, and their cat Tillie; his son, Larry L. (Shanon) Hashman II; daughter, Lori Hashman; step-daughter, Trisha (Jeromy Rupert) Sands; a step-son, Jim Sands; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Wenger; and a special cousin, Sandra Martin, along with several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn; and his brother, James Hashman.
