Mount Vernon police, Knox coroner investigate boy's death

MOUNT VERNON – The death of a 6-year-old Mount Vernon boy is under investigation by city police and the Knox County Coroner’s Office.

Mount Vernon Police Department officers and medics from the Fire Department responded at 7:54 a.m. on Dec. 8 to a 911 call from the Follin Avenue apartment complex that the boy was unresponsive, Police Chief Robert Morgan said.

Police officers arrived first, followed by the medical team. CPR had been in progress when they arrived. Officers and medics continued with CPR before the child was determined to have died, Morgan said in a release.

The incident is under investigation. No other information was released.
