MOUNT VERNON – Hospice of North Central Ohio (HNCO) presented the sixth annual Sandra J. Rule Dauch Volunteer of the Year Award to Marge Armstrong at a special ceremony Nov. 17.

Armstrong has volunteered and been an integral part of HNCO/Hospice of Knox County for over 28 years, according to a press release. She has been involved with teaching the local community about grief and end-of-life care. Further, she regularly volunteers in the office and serves as a historical reference for HNCO’s Mount Vernon office.

The release also said Armstrong “goes above and beyond” in supporting the organization’s mission in the community.

Established in 2016 through a grant from The Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch Foundation, the award is presented each November in honor of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month to an HNCO volunteer who exhibits extraordinary commitment, impact, personal growth and inspiration to others. Nominations are submitted by supervisors and peers and reviewed by a selection committee.

The nominees for this year were Armstrong, Barbara Beer, Jack Colvin, Beth Hoeffgen, J. Terrence Klopcic and John Young.

The recipient’s name is permanently displayed on plaques at HNCO offices in Ashland, Mansfield and Mount Vernon, and at the What Goes Around Thrift Shoppe in downtown Mansfield. HNCO regularly engages approximately 200 volunteers who provide vigil care for patients, help with administrative duties, assist at special events, help support Thrift Shoppe operations and volunteer at such HNCO traditional programs like Camp Hope children’s bereavement program and military pinnings.
