MOUNT VERNON – Sharon D. Thayer, 61, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, at her home. She was born on Feb. 24, 1960, in Dania, Fla., the daughter of Thomas and Janice Ann (Coffman) Knox Sr.  Sharon was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and retired in 2015 after 30 years of employment with New Hope Industries and the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities. 

Sharon was a people person and truly never met a stranger, as she could carry on a conversation with anyone. She had a big heart and was always worried about others, wanting to help in any way possible. Sharon loved to travel, especially riding on the motorcycle. She also enjoyed watching the birds and deer in her backyard. Sharon liked to work with beads and took pride in the bracelets she made for others. She was a loving spouse, mother, sister and friend to many, who will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Craig A. Thayer; her stepchildren, Kurt (Valene) Thayer of Fredericktown and Jessica (Andrew) Kuntzman of Centerburg; step grandchildren, Kyler Thayer, Noah Murphy and Elias Kuntzman; a sister, Dawn (John Bryan) McCament of Mount Vernon; a brother, Thomas Knox Jr. of Mount Vernon; nieces and nephews, Danielle McCament, Jared McCament, Mason Knox, Shawn Mulich, Matthew Thayer, Dorraine Lampert, Chad Thayer, Grant Thayer, Cameron Thayer, Leroy Frazier and Barry Frazier; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and fur babies, Tasha, Harley, Tiggy, Cali and Pandora.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call on Monday, Nov. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home - Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. The family will observe a private service. 

Memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be made to the Knox County Animal Shelter or the Knox County Humane Society.
