Mullins, Askew named to OCC All-Conference team
The 2021 Ohio Cardinal Conference Football All Conference team was chosen, and two Yellow Jackets were recognized on the First Team, two were honored on the Second Team and three student-athletes received honorable mention.
Mount Vernon High School senior linebacker Zach Mullins and sophomore running back/cornerback Jonny Askew were named to the first team.
Senior defensive tackle/guard Nate Stradley and senior defensive end/wide receiver Jesse Foster were named to the Second Team, and honorable mention was given to junior running back/linebacker Evan Owens, senior wide receiver/cornerback Dylan Dowell and junior quarterback/strong safety Joel Hubbard.
Mount Vernon finished in sixth place with a 1-5 conference mark.
Centerburg Signing Day today
Centerburg’s student-athletes have a day set aside by the Trojans to honor them and their on-field accomplishments and also to help them declare their futures publicly.
Beginning at 1 p.m. in the Centerburg gym, the school has scheduled Centerburg Signing Day.
Rich Porter, athletic director at Centerburg High School, said, “We have two girls that will be continuing their academic and athletic careers at the next level. These two student-athletes are: Chloe Goulter, who will commit to University of Northwestern Ohio for Softball (NAIA), and Brooke Otto, who will advance to the Ohio State University for Soccer (D1).
Milhon earns position on All-NCAC Team
In between matches at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) volleyball tournament, the names of the student-athletes who made the 2021 All-NCAC Team were announced. Among the 21 honorees was Kenyon College junior Paige Milhon.
Milhon earned her spot on the All-NCAC Team as one of seven honorable mentions. The all-conference award was the first of her collegiate career.
A middle, Milhon racked up a team-best 79 blocks. Her average of 1.25 blocks per game ranked first among all players in the conference and third among all players in NCAA Division III.
Throughout the 2021 season, Milhon also generated 89 kills, 28 digs and 13 service aces. Those numbers boosted her career numbers at the net to 139 blocks and 123 kills.
