NEWBURGH, IND. – Laverne Blue “Dixie” Dugan, 87, of Newburgh, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at Woodland Golden Center in Newburgh. He was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Knox County, Ohio, the son of John M. and Gladys (Blue) Dugan.
He served in the Naval Reserves for eight years, worked in the coal mining industry for over 45 years and also served as the Warrick County Auditor from January 2011 to December 2014. Dixie was a 32nd degree Mason, Hadi Shrine, Red Brush Rifle Range, Izaak Walton Gun Club, NRA benefactor member, NRA safety instructor and member of the Newburgh United Methodist Church. Many of Dixie’s interests took him outdoors. He loved to play baseball, softball, hunting, trap shooting, gunsmithing and motorcycling with Marge.
Dixie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marge Dugan of Newburgh, Ind.; daughter, Cheryl Close (Van) of Copper Canyon, Texas; daughter, Dawn Duncan (Dennis) of Las Cruces, N.M.; daughter, Connie Dugan of Nolensville, Tenn.; son, Kevin Dugan (Jane) of Evansville, Ind.; three granddaughters; three grandsons; and three great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, one granddaughter and one grandson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, at the funeral home.
