The Highland boys basketball team is coming off a tough season in which the Scots went 5-17 and lost in the sectionals in the tournament to Hartley, 49-43. While the challenges continue with the team switching conferences, the Scots bring back depth with nine returning lettermen.

Among the returning lettermen are seniors Jordan Bellamy, Garrett Fitzpatrick, Rider Minnick and Kadirr Murta. Juniors on this year’s squad include Brock Church, Gavin Hankins, Blake Prior, Zach Schmidt and Gavin Debord. The Scots also have one returning sophomore and one of the top athletes in school, Dane Nauman.

This season, the Scots enter the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference (MOAC), coming from the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference (KOAC), where the Scots went 3-11.

“Highland enters a new conference where every night will be a battle,” said coach Christian Toombs, who is in his second year at Highland and coaches alongside assistant Dylan Tuggle. “The Scots will need to play physically and mentally smart to compete in the MOAC.”

After four scrimmages beginning with Saturday's practice against Tree of Life, the Scots will kick off the regular season against Fredericktown on Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. Highland will honor the Sparta Warriors in the middle school gym, which is the former gym of the Scots.
