Roberts Funeral Home provides services wherever a family desires. They will do a service at any church, and bury at any cemetery, not just in Knox County!
In the 1980s, J.P. Roberts helped establish new legislation to allow funeral homes to be on cemetery property.
“American Cemetery Services has nine cemeteries, and on five of them we have built funeral homes,” Managing Director Tom Cropp told the Mount Vernon News.
“Even though our company owns cemeteries, Roberts Funeral Home will conduct burials at all area cemeteries. We are a full-service funeral home offering any kind of burial or cremation service you may wish to have,” Cropp said.
That includes live-streaming funeral services over the internet, valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic when travel to funerals proved difficult. Because they own their own crematory, clients’ loved ones never leave their care.
Some families want the full services Roberts Funeral Home provides, while others just want minimum services.
“At Roberts Funeral Home we accommodate all families with the same dignified respect, and understanding of the circumstances,” Cropp said.
Whether planning in advance, which is recommended, or at the time of loss, Roberts will assist with all the decisions and arrangements.
Amongst other services, the funeral home handles writing the obituary for publication in the newspaper and online and sharing through social media.
“The first person you speak to after the death occurs is the same person you will be sitting with at the arrangement,” Cropp said. “I’m going to be with you every step of the way.”
“Sometimes death is expected, other times it isn’t,” Cropp said. “No two families are alike; therefore, no arrangement or service is the same.”
Roberts prides itself on providing individual attention to families after the death of a loved one.
“It’s all about the individual families. Each family has their own expectations and we are going to exceed all of those. My personal motto is to give more than expected,” Cropp added.
