Student wait their turns for mock job interviews at KCCC. | Submitted

MOUNT VERNON – Knox County Career Center (KCCC) seniors participated in mock interviews this week with local employers. Students were evaluated on their resume, introduction, appearance, interview questions and overall employability. Mock interviews are conducted with students each year in preparation for job interviews with future employers.

“Senior mock Interviews at KCCC provide a great opportunity for collaboration between employers, students, and the KCCC staff. The lessons leading up to interview day are authentic and engaging for students,” said Kathie Brown, KCCC school counselor.

Students are able to create relationships with adults who support success through KCCC mock interviews. Many students have follow-up shadowing and second interviews, and some of them secure employment.

“This experience provides students with the opportunity to use effective oral and written communication and listening skills. The interviews give the seniors the chance to demonstrate social maturity and behaviors appropriate to the situation and environment,” said Brown.

“Senior Mock Interview Day is one of my most rewarding experiences as a school counselor," Brown said. "It is a great KCCC tradition.”

The following business professionals and businesses volunteered their time to conduct interviews with students: Navin Ajodhya (Ajodhya Dining Concepts), Jeremy Biggs (Jeld-Wen), Nick Clark (YMCA), Sherry Curry (Knox Technical Center), Angela Sichel (New Hope Industries), Kim Giles (Retired Teacher), Todd Hawkins (Park National Bank), Crystal Hook (Shannon Staffing), Nathan Hudepohl (Edison Welding), Scott Huvler (TD Landscape), Bryan Johnson (Breenstuhl Construction), Jen Kelly (Hidden Creek Landscape), Victoria Lambert (Retired Teacher), Linda Nelson (Retired Director of Nursing/Ohio Health), Patrick Owens (Ariel), Lori Rudrick (Ohio Means Jobs), Austin Semerar (Fredericktown Chevrolet), John Swiatek (Fredericktown Chevrolet), Jackie Thompson (Carna Kokosing) and Austin Thorpe (Thorpe Garage).
