MOUNT VERNON – Betty Jean Reffitt, 90, of Mount Vernon passed away Oct. 26, 2021.
Betty was born in Caretta, West Virginia, on Oct. 1, 1931, to the late Timothy L. and Lula Mae (Brewster) Hankins.
Betty moved to Ohio at age 15 and attended Sparta Highland High School before attending Camden Clark Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Betty was employed for many years as a RN at Mercy and Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Nursing was a passion.
Betty is survived by George K. Reffitt, whom she married in 1952, and their three children – Daniel (Maribel) Reffitt of Logan; George David (Lisa) Reffitt of Senoia, Georgia; and Tamara (Marc) Cunningham of Lebanon, New Jersey. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and one brother, Don (Sherry) Hankins of Centerburg.
Betty is preceded by her beloved sisters, Janet “Toots” Puckett and Shirley (Kay) Parmer of Mount Vernon, as well as her two brothers, James and Charles Hankins.
Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Susan Stevens on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
The Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel is handling the services for the family.
Betty requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to either Ebenezer United Methodist Church, located at 14764 Wooster Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, or to Hospice of Knox County, located at 17700 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050.
