MOUNT VERNON – Dorothy “Dottie” Jeanne (Meek) Linson, 87, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at her favorite vacation spot and second home, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Dottie was born July 17, 1934, and was the daughter of Mose and Ruth (Williams) Meek. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School and on Aug. 28, 1953, married the love of her life, John W. Linson of Centerburg.
After 35 years of service, Dottie retired as a secretary from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and First Church of the Nazarene (both of Mount Vernon) and then, later, Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Gahanna.
Dottie loved her family and friends immensely, finding joy in keeping up with them on social media. Her other passions included the family dogs, photographs – taking them, sharing them and looking at them – as well as staying up late enjoying social media and then sleeping in. Dottie’s door was always open to anyone who needed a heartfelt smile and a listening ear.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 49 years, Dottie is preceded in death by her daughters Peggy Lee Linson and Susan Julia Matthews. She is survived by her daughters, Sonja (Denny) Butler, Penny (Lynn) Nichols and Tracie (Bryan) Clay; grandchildren, Bill (Melissa) Matthews, John (Lynette) Matthews, Sean (Trisha) Butler, Jordan (Christy) Butler, Peggy (Andrew) Eden, Johnathan (Anna) Nichols, Travis (Alex) Nichols, Trevor Nichols, D.J. Clay and Chelsea Clay; numerous great-grandchildren; and special beach buddy and hand-picked sister Helen Pickens.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene, 16001 Glen Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A service at the church will follow beginning at 1 p.m. with Rev. Michael Norris officiating. A private interment for relatives and close friends of the family to follow at Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Women’s Auxiliary of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
