A new company with a 30-year track record in Ohio is Mount Vernon's new natural gas aggregation supplier.

According to an Oct. 8 press release, IGS Energy entered into a joint venture with Dominion Energy Solutions, the city's previous supplier.

The release states that IGS Energy has been active in Ohio since 1989.

An article in the industry newsletter "Energy Choice Matters" said IGS Energy bought out Dominion's 200,000 natural gas residential and small commercial contracts.

Through the aggregation program, residents can save 10% over the pricing offered by the Columbia Gas Standard Choice Offer rate, the release said. The aggregated rate still fluctuates monthly based on market pricing.

"This rate will be in effect through March 2022," officials said in the press release.

Residents who want their gas supplied by IGS need to call Buckeye Energy Brokers toll-free at 866-302-2237 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Despite having a new provider, Columbia Gas still delivers the gas to customers via its pipeline and metering system, the release said.

"Residents’ natural gas bills also continue to come from Columbia Gas," officials said. "The only changes residents see are the savings and the name of their new supplier, IGS Energy, on their bills."

Mount Vernon has offered aggregate pricing for natural gas and electricity since voters OK'd the plan in 2008. The state Public Utilities Commission licenses the suppliers participating in the program.

Residents who aren’t already participating in the city’s electric aggregation program may do so by calling Energy Harbor toll-free at 866-636-3749 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
