Running as Candidate For:

Mount Vernon City Council at-large representative

Incumbent Y/N:

Yes

Party Affiliation:

Democratic

Top Three Issues:

Citizens consistently tell me their top concerns are street safety and the city’s aging infrastructure. Their concerns are my concerns. Since being elected, I presented the Complete Streets Policy, which guides future street design to make roads safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. City Council voted unanimously for this policy.

I participated in the countywide Active Transportation committee to plan for and improve walking and biking paths around Mount Vernon.

I have toured Mount Vernon with the city engineer to visit river restoration sites, street repair projects and future construction sites. I have also toured our water treatment and wastewater plants. By spending time with and listening to city employees, I understand firsthand what parts of the city’s infrastructure work well and what needs to be improved.

Finally, vacant and abandoned buildings are unsafe and negatively impact neighborhoods. If re-elected, I’ll continue to work with city officials to hold owners of vacant buildings accountable. I’ll also champion programs that develop abandoned properties into future homes and businesses.

Candidate Statement:

I’m running for re-election to City Council because our citizens deserve thoughtful and financially responsible leadership that keeps Mount Vernon safe and productive while preparing for future growth. As a current councilwoman, I listen to constituents' thoughts and concerns. I ask the city’s administration and local organizational leaders questions. Mount Vernon needs experienced leaders that will make informed decisions about difficult issues.
