Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's and men’s tennis teams closed out their fall seasons with victories in matches that coincided with the Cougars’ Senior Day celebrations.
The Lady Cougars women's tennis team finished its fall season strong as it defeated Capital University, 7-0, on Friday, Sept. 24. Before the match, seniors Casey Clark, Laurel Sidle and Sarah Young were honored, and each finished the fall season with a win.
In women’s singles, Hailey Clayborn won her match with scores of 6-1 and 6-4, Casey Clark won 6-4 and 6-2, and Hannah Fugate won by scores of 6-2 and 6-1. In other play, Audrey Cochran defeated her opponent 6-2 and 6-4, Emily Allison won her match 6-1 and 7-6, and Sarah Young won by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
In women’s doubles, Fugate and Clayborn teamed up to win their match by a score of 6-2,
Cochran and Clark beat their opponents 7-5, and Allison and Sidle doubled up their opponent 6-3.
On the men’s side of the court, Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s tennis team closed out its fall season with a win, defeating Capital University, 4-3. The Senior’s Day tennis program celebrated senior Justin Haggard for his effort and commitment over the past four years.
In the No. 1 men's singles match, Justin Haggard won against his competition, two sets to one. After dropping the first set 4-6, he came back and finished off his opponent with scores of 7-6 and 10-7.
In other matches, Clayton Amburgy beat his opponent by scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Carter Jones won 6-0 and 6-2. Logan Gauthier defeated the opposition 6-3 and 7-5, and Austin Faucett won his match with two sets of 6-4 scores.
In men's doubles, Faucett and Amburgy won their match 6-1.
