A number of entities have joined together to endorse a meeting to discuss the possible formation of a local support group for LGBTQ+ people, families and allies.

Among the local entities endorsing the discussion are The Main Place, First Congregational Church, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mount Vernon Zen Community, Knox Public Health, Families for Inclusive Schools and Knox County Pride Alliance.

The Rev. Scott Elliott, pastor at First Congregational Church, said, "A number of us have been discussing the need to create a support group for LGBTQ+ and their families and allies. We've reached the point where we'd like to invite the public to a meeting for a respectful discussion to determine whether there is interest in forming a local chapter of PFLAG, the largest national organization for LGBTQ+ and their parents, families and allies."

Elliott said the meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m. at The Main Place in Mount Vernon at 117 W. High St. For more information, send an email to revscottelliott@mvucc.org or check out the event page on Facebook.
