The Holiday spirit always comes a few months early at Rick’s Sporting Goods on Newark Road in Mount Vernon. It’s hunting season, which means customers are startling flow in like it's a Black Friday sale.
“This is our busiest time of the year,” said owner Rick Musick. “People are coming in getting ready for deer hunting season. We’ll be busy from now until the end of the year.”
The store has been in business for 16 years and offers a wide variety of firearms, ammunition and hunting and fishing gear. Popular items include handguns, rifles, shotguns, knives, archery, survival kits, emergency kits, ammo and magazine clips. Gear sold includes backpacks, body armor, footwear, muzzle devices, trail cameras, cleaning equipment, crossbows, decoys, electronics and tree stands, just to name a few. The list of manufactures to purchase from is endless. The store carries a full catalog online as well as in the store.
Musick advised customers to make sure they have the basics to keep them warm and safe. For more experienced hunters, an assortment of automatic rifles is available for purchase.
COVID actually has been good for business, Musick said. People stuck in the house with nowhere to go want to get outdoors, and the popularity of guns has risen. Now it’s hunting season.
“People were just itching to get outside,” Musick said. “Sales have been way up.”
