As of 11:30 a.m., Sept. 9, Knox Public Health is temporarily out of free at-home COVID-19 rapid test kits. Additional test kits have been ordered, but there is no exact delivery date. Since Aug. 30, Knox Public Health has distributed more than 1,500 free at-home test kits for COVID-19. PCR testing for COVID-19 – which involves a nasal swab analyzed at a lab – is available by appointment at the Community Health Center, which is located inside the health department. To make an appointment, call 740-399-8008.

Knox Public Health has posted a notice on vaccine availability that will be updated regularly as conditions change. Anyone 12 and older is eligible for the first two doses of the vaccine; third-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations are currently available to immunocompromised individuals. The Health Department asks those who qualify to send an email to info@knoxhealth.com indicating name, age and phone number, unless they have done so already. Visit gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov to check eligibility and available sites. For more information about COVID-19 vaccination in Knox County, call 740-399-8008.

SNAP-Ed is now providing virtual programming to eligible audiences. Knox County SNAP-Ed staff member Tanner Cooper-Risser will be providing a virtual series called "Eating for the Health of it" with Opportunity Knox. Cooper-Risser will be discussing tips on making healthy food choices and ways to save money while still following a healthy lifestyle. The 2021 Knox County College Night is open to any local high school students to come explore and get information from over 60 college representatives that will be on hand.

Knox County Symphony Children's Concert: This free concert is designed with little ones in mind. Only an hour in length (for those who wiggle and giggle), this is the perfect concert to introduce children to classical and movie-themed music from the Knox County Symphony. They might get the chance to explore instruments and even direct. Plus more than 250 acres of beautiful park to explore and you have the perfect afternoon for children.

The Monroe Township Fire Association will have its drive-through chicken dinner: $10 per plate and you get barbecue chicken with potato salad, baked beans, roll and cookie. Monroe Township Fire Department is a volunteer department and uses the funds to help purchase necessary items. All proceeds stay with the department.

Halloween Hootenanny's theme this year is “Saturday Morning Cartoons” and we are excited to see the many ways this theme will be brought to life among our participants. There will be no indoor rain option this year. There will be candy distribution; store-bought, not home-made. If you are interested in participating but don’t know what kind of activities could be done, contact marketing@mountvernonartsconsortium.org for help thinking of a creative idea. More setup details will be available closer to the event date.

Nov. 13

Fredericktown United Methodist Church is holding its 5K Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble Fun Run to benefit its building fund. Pre-register online at http://freddieumc.org by Oct. 30. Those who preregister for $25 will receive a T-shirt. The price is $30 day of race or $10 for the one-mile fun run.
