Five Knox County art organizations have been awarded grants from the Ohio Arts Council.
The council’s board of directors on July 21 approved $18.5 million in grants to artists, arts and cultural organizations, students, educators, and public arts programming in Ohio, according to a news release.
“This marks the largest amount of grant dollars distributed to constituents applying to OAC funding programs in the agency’s history,” the news release said.
Among the Knox recipients was the Kenyon Review, the renowned literary magazine at Kenyon College, which was awarded $48,697.
The Graham Gund Gallery at Kenyon was awarded $33,065. It is the academic art museum for Kenyon College, according to its website.
“The Gund Gallery celebrates the power of art as a critical centerpiece of Kenyon’s liberal arts mission and our community,” the museum said on its website. “We champion the best art and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries via an active exhibition schedule, expanding permanent collection, and formal and informal learning experiences.”
The Ohio Gourd Society, Inc., MTVarts Inc. and Foundation Park Conservancy were also awarded grants.
Foundation Park Conservancy was awarded $3,855 for the free summer concert series at Ariel-Foundation Park.
“We are very grateful to Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted and members of the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate for their continued support of public funding for the arts,” Arts Council Executive Director Donna S. Collins said in a statement. “This investment will fuel the spirit of innovative resilience that defines Ohio’s arts and cultural sector.”
