MOUNT VERNON – Carol L. De Lano, 78, of Mount Vernon passed away on July 5, 2021, at the Country Court Care Center in Mount Vernon. She was born on Oct. 3, 1942, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Samuel and Ruth (Basnett) Clark.
Carol graduated from Mount Vernon High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Otterbein College in Teaching. Teaching was her life and she taught in the Mount Vernon City Schools for over 40 years. Even during her summers off she would take time and tutor kids. Carol was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, and Knox Chapter #236 Order of Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She loved racing and was the first woman tech inspector and licensed racing steward. Carol loved being outdoors, especially her family property on Zuck Road.
She is survived by her sons, Derek (Elizabeth) De Lano, Everett (Dare) De Lano; grandchildren, Evan, Isabel, Oliver, Alexie, Angelena, Emily, Helene, Pierce, Weston, Alaina, Sterling, and Sloane.
Along with her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her husband, E. Leon De Lano Jr, and a brother, Harlan Clark.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday, July 10, from 3-5 p.m. and Sunday, July 11, from 1-3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home; 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 12, at 1 p.m. at the Gay Street United Methodist Church; 18 N. Gay Street Mount Vernon, OH 43050, with Rev. Karen Oehl officiating.
