The Knox County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) receives on average 5 pounds of illegal substances per week from a drop-off box in its lobby, according to a Facebook post, and now those substances will "feed" the hungry mouth of the office's newest member.
Meet the new, portable drug incinerator KCSO purchased recently to help dispose of the drugs and contraband. It resembles a combination of vacuum cleaner and upright freezer, but this unit is no kitchen appliance. This device can burn seized drugs no longer needed as evidence in criminal cases, plus prescription medications placed in the box by the public.
The incinerator was purchased with a combination of funds from the drug seizure and fine fund, along with the furtherance of justice fund, KCSO stated in its Facebook post.
To "donate" unwanted pills into the drop box, KCSO recommends removing them from their containers and pouring them into a clear plastic bag.
Absolutely no liquids or sharps are permitted. However, liquids can be mixed with coffee grounds, cat litter or other absorbent material and then disposed of with normal trash.
