DANVILLE – Billy Dye, 87, of Ashland, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Grant Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 11, 1933, in Logan, West Virginia, the son of the late Roy and Violet (White) Dye.
Billy was a 1953 graduate of Danville High School and had been a resident of Ashland since 1979. He retired from Hyco Inc., where he was employed as a manufacturing engineer. He had previously been employed at Cooper Bessmer in Mount Vernon. Billy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division; and he also served in the National Guard.
Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a sports fan who enjoyed all Cleveland sports and especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an outdoorsman — enjoying golf, yard work and woodworking, along with building things for his grandchildren.
On Aug. 25, 1956, Billy married his high school sweetheart with whom he shared a wonderful marriage, Elsie (Mickley) Dye, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Cindy Bowles of Ashland; his sons, Jeff (Barb) Dye of Mount Vernon and R.J. (Deena) Dye of Ashland; his grandchildren, Abby (Brad) Evans, Elizabeth (Brandon) Banks, Valerie (Chad) Schlereth, Alex Dye, Celsey Dye, Madison (Christian) Langston and Rhyan Light; and his eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis Dye and Jimmie Dye; and sister, Elizabeth Boothe.
A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at Heyl Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 28, with Christian Langson officiating and military honors presented by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
