GAMBIER – Gordon Allen Clutter, a lifetime resident of Gambier, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 19, 2021, at the age of 87, following an extended illness.

Gordon was born on Jan. 1, 1934, to Louis and Glenna Clutter. After his graduation from Gambier High School, he spent two years in the U.S. Army. On March 3, 1957, Gordon married Catherine Elaine Swendal. Together, they had two sons, Larry and Steve, and one daughter, Marcia. 

Gordon was actively involved in his community. He was a farmer well known for growing popcorn. Together with his son, he established Clutter’s Indian Fields Popcorn, which his son and two grandsons continue to operate. Gordon was also a township trustee for over 30 years, and he was involved in the reopening of Messiah Church, which later became Community Christian Fellowship.

Gordon was married to his loving wife, Elaine, for 64 years. His children are Larry (Yvonne) Clutter, Steve (Pam) Clutter and Marcia (Alan) Shaffer. His grandchildren include Rodney (Krista) Clutter, Kelly (Jon) Rush, Timothy (Ashley) Clutter, Shoshana (Ryan) Simas, Helena (Joel) Hostetler, Hannah (Reuben) Yutzy, Emily (Jed) Eaton, Susanna (Ridge) Hykes, Thaddeus (Koi) Clutter, Monica Joy Clutter, Carolyn Clutter, Obadiah Clutter, Amelia Clutter, Kristina Shaffer, Catherine (Caleb) Reiss, Daniel (Gayle) Shaffer and Kimberly (Cory) Williams. His great-grandchildren number 36. Gordon is also survived by his sister, Linda (Al) Dix; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place from 5–7 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, at the Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon. The funeral will also be held at Lasater’s at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 25. A graveside service will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Gambier.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gordon’s name to the Bladensburg Church of Christ, P.O. Box 16, Bladensburg, OH 43005; or to Kenya Missions at Kingsway Community Church, 242 Hillsdale Ave., San Jose, CA 95136 (please make checks payable to Kingsway Community Church).
