Ohio is offering free fishing for everyone this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 19–20.
All Ohio residents are permitted to fish any public body of water throughout the state of Ohio this weekend, a release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) said.
“All Ohioans are invited to enjoy the fun and excitement of fishing during our free fishing weekend,” Division of Wildlife Chief Kendra Wecker said in the ODNR release. “Fishing is a great way to introduce someone to the outdoors and make some lasting memories.”
The ODNR website offers a Find A Destination page to help anyone interested in participating in the free weekend find the perfect fishing location. It also provides information and suggested locations for fishing specific species on the Fishing License and Resource page.
“The free fishing weekend offers the chance to experience the thrill of catching a fish,” the ODNR release said.
In 2020, the Division of Wildlife’s six state fish hatcheries stocked approximately 46 million sport fish throughout more than 200 locations including lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams, the release stated. Types of fish that were stocked include walleye, yellow perch, rainbow trout, muskellunge, catfish, hybrid striped bass and numerous others.
