MOUNT VERNON – Thanks to Go Pink for a Cure, area breast cancer patients have another avenue for help with costly treatment.

Go Pink is an annual event — now in its 23rd year — organized by local women to help breast cancer patients receiving treatment at Knox Community Hospital. Held at the Mount Vernon Country Club, teams of golfers play in a nine-hole scramble while others enjoy euchre and mahjong in the clubhouse. A delicious lunch is served, and prizes for the golf scramble and table games are awarded at the end of the day. An honoree is chosen each year, and words of encouragement are shared with all.

“We want women to know that you can survive and thrive after a breast cancer diagnosis,” co-founder Carol Sue Owens said in a press release.

Since Go Pink donations are made to The Foundation for Knox Community Hospital, 100% of the funds go directly to benefit local breast cancer patients. Too often, a cancer diagnosis causes financial hardship because the patient cannot work during treatment. Many patients struggle to find resources to help them heal. Go Pink provides these patients with costly materials such as prosthesis bras and lymphedema sleeves.

“When you give locally, you can see the impact of your gift,” the release said.
