MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon baseball team will host a Division I district tournament game. The Yellow Jackets received the 14th seed at the tournament draw on Sunday, May 9, which was done virtually.
Mount Vernon hosts the winner of (21-seed) Gahanna and (38) Reynoldsburg in the second round on May 19. All tournament games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
The Jackets are coming off a 15-7 loss to the Lions on Saturday, May 8, in Mount Vernon.
The best seed in the district belongs to (4) Westerville South, which will play either (26) Hilliard Davidson or (42) South in the second round on May 19. The winner of that sectional will face the winner of Mount Vernon sectional.
Highland is the seeded second in Division II and will host the winner of (16) River Valley and (22) East in the second round on May 20.
The Fighting Scots will host throughout the district tournament, possibly seeing (5) Bishop Hartley in a district semifinal and (3) Buckeye Valley in a district final.
Utica is the nine-seed in Division II and hosts Hamilton Township in the first round on May 18. The winner travels to seventh-seeded Jonathan Alder in Round 2.
Utica is in the same bracket as fourth-seeded Granville, which it could face in a district semifinal; and top-seeded Bloom-Carroll, which it could see in the district final.
Utica defeated Granville in Licking County League play on a Josh Dillon walk-off home run on Monday, May 10.
Fredericktown is the two-seed in Division II and will host the winner of (15) Elgin and (17) Northridge in the second round on May 20.
Mount Gilead is the eight-seed and hosts (10) Fairbanks on May 20, setting up a potential rematch with the Freddies, who swept both games in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference play this season.
Worthington Christian is the overall No. 1 seed and bracketed with Fredericktown and Mount Gilead and would host the district final game if either make it that far.
Centerburg is the seven-seed in Division III and hosts (9) Columbus Academy in the second round on May 20. With a win, the Trojans could see KMAC foe Northmor, which is seeded fifth, in the district semifinal round. The Golden Knights face the winner of (11) Madison Plains and (12) West Jefferson in the second round on May 20.
Third-seeded Liberty Union and fourth-seeded Pleasant are the best seeds in this bracket and could face each other in the district semifinal round with the potential of hosting Centerburg or Northmor in the district final.
East Knox is seeded fifth in Division IV and hosts the winner of (13) Granville Christian and (14) Wellington in the second round on May 19.
The Bulldogs could host (7) Cardington in the district semifinal round. The Pirates open at (4) Madison Christian in Round 2 on May 19. East Knox owns two wins over Cardington in KMAC play. The Bulldogs would travel to Madison Christian if both win their respective second-round matchups.
On the other side of the bracket, (3) Berne Union owns the best seed in the district and would host the district final if they win out.
Danville is seeded 10th in Division IV and, like all teams in its bracket, has a first-round bye. The Blue Devils travel to (9) Tree of Life in the second round on May 19. The winner meets either top-seeded Fisher Catholic in Lancaster or hosts (16) Shekinah Christian in the district semifinal round.
On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Newark Catholic is the best seed.
