Camden Firebaugh’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning proved to be the game-winner.
The second-seeded Mount Vernon OrangeSox 14U defeated the top-seeded Tri-County Curve 14U 7-6 in the Clash of Communities championship game on Sunday, April 25.
The OrangeSox tallied four wins in the Clash of Communities showcase, which ran from Friday to Sunday, April 23–25, in Medina and Akron.
Firebaugh drove in four runs, Caden Theibert scored twice and drove in a run on a walk and a hit, and Zac Clow had two hits and scored a run to lead Mount Vernon in the title game.
Wes Neighbarger allowed one run over the final three innings of relief to notch the win.
The OrangeSox overcame an early 2-0 deficit with a three-run third inning and rolled to a 9-2 win over the third-seeded Outlaws Baseball Club 14U in Sunday’s semifinal.
In the third, Luke Hubbard hit an RBI single and Hayden Higgins followed with an RBI double to knot the score. Two batters later, Ethan Yost gave the OSox the lead for good with an RBI single.
At the plate, Higgins had two hits and scored three runs. On the mound, he allowed three hits and struck out five over five scoreless innings of relief to get the win.
The OrangeSox got to tournament play with an 8-7 win over the Waterloo Thunder 14U and a 10-2 win over the Outlaws in pool play on Friday and Saturday.
