Roundup: Albanese leads Scot boys to Cowen showcase victory

Landyn Albanese won three events, and Landon Remmert and Juliette Laracuente each won two to lead the Highland track and field team at the Cowen Redbird Invitational on Saturday, April 17, in Loudonville.

Albanese took the 100-meter dash (11.3 seconds), the 200-meter dash (22.75) and the long jump (19 feet, 6.25 inches); Remmert was first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.88) and the 300-meter hurdles (42.5); and Laracuente won the long jump (16-3) and the 100-meter hurdles (15.73) to lead the Fighting Scots.

The Highland boys team won the meet, beating out 14 teams by scoring 114 points. Fredericktown finished fourth (48) and East Knox was sixth (46).

The Scots’ girls team (76) was third out of 13 teams, behind winner West Holmes (106.5). The Freddies (73) finished fifth and the Bulldogs (38.5) were eighth.

Thomas Caputo won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:41.95; and the 4x800-meter relay team of Elsa Hoam, Sydney Wilson, Natalie VanMeter and Sadie Sanders (10:45.6) took first place to lead the Freddies.

Nathan Streby finished first in the 800-meter run (2:01.3) and the 1,600-meter run (4:35.37) to lead the Bulldogs.

Vic Thompson Invitational

Chloe Goulter won three events to lead Centerburg at the Vic Thompson Invitational on Saturday, April 17, in Johnstown.

Goulter took first place in the 100-meter (13.0), the 200-meter (27.1) and the long jump (16 feet, 1.5 inches) to lead the Trojans.

The Centerburg girls team scored 65 points and finished fourth out of 12 teams, behind winner Northridge (140). Utica (24) was ninth.

The Trojans’ boys team was fifth (65.5) and Utica was sixth (61) out of 11 teams, behind winner Meadowbrook.

Chandler Hartman took first in the shot put (41-0.5) and the discus (130-8) to lead Utica.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Host Mount Vernon got a strong effort all around to beat Coshocton 5-0 in non-league play on Monday, April 19.

The Yellow Jackets took both doubles matches in decisive fashion. Alex Buehrer and Brian Sabula beat Andrew Gibson and Alessia Mauca 6-0, 6-2; and Ethan Jarosz and Toby Boggs knocked off Cody Jackson and Ella Baylor 6-1, 6-0.

Quinn Hoffman and Judah Nelson went back and forth in the day’s closest match. Hoffman narrowly got by Nelson 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 in second singles.

Mount Vernon’s Jack Staats topped Alec Laaper 6-4, 6-3 in first singles, and Becket Elkins bested Zauyhou Wong 6-0, 6-2 to finish the clean sweep for the Jackets.
