GAMBIER – On Monday, April 5, Gambier Village Council approved the street resurfacing contract with Small’s Asphalt Paving for $185,725.

The Gambier company was the only bidder to turn in a proposal on March 25 to resurface Meadow Lane and parts of Kokosing and Brooklyn Streets as well as the parking lot at the village park. Small’s bid was lower than the engineer’s estimate of $190,000.

Council also approved a resolution for the village to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation’s road salt purchase for next winter. The resolution allows the Village to enjoy the economies of scale by getting the same unit price as ODOT is able to obtain.

In other action, Council set Stick It to the Village Days for April 12 and April 26. The annual event allows residents to place small limbs and brush that have accumulated over the winter out on their curb for the maintenance staff to collect.

Dumpster Day, an annual collaborative effort with College Township, has been set for May 1. The event, which runs from 8 a.m. to noon at 141 Meadow Lane, gives residents an opportunity to dispose of items too bulky to be accepted in the weekly solid waste collection.

Monday’s Council meeting is presumably the last one that Fiscal Officer Kathi Schonauer will attend as she plans to retire April 30 after a 25-year career with Gambier.

Diane Steinmetz has been appointed the new fiscal officer, and Monday was her first day with the Village.

The next Council meeting is 7 p.m. on May 3 via the Zoom platform.
