Juliette Laracuente was first in four events, and Landyn Albanese and Landon Remmert each topped in three others to lead the Highland track and field team to a clean sweep at the Mike Armstrong Memorial Invitational on Saturday, April 3, in Cardington.

The Fighting Scots’ girls team finished first out of 10 teams with a score of 150 points, followed by Mount Gilead (129 points), East Knox (67.5), Elgin (67), Lucas (62), Cardington (52), Ridgedale (44.5), Delaware Christian (44), Crestline (14) and Ridgemont (12).

The Highland boys team (157) beat out Mount Gilead (132), East Knox (67), Crestline (63), Elgin (57), Cardington (53), Lucas (46), Ridgemont (34), Ridgedale (19) and Delaware Christian (13).

Laracuente took top honors in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.55 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.43 seconds. She added a first-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 3 inches.

Laracuente was also on the 4x200-meter relay team with Peyton Carpenter, Audrey Weaver and Mackenzie Blubaugh, which took first place with a time of 1:53.36.

Albanese was first in the 200-meter dash (24.23), the 400-meter run (54.77) and the long jump (19-3.75).

Landon Remmert was first in the 110-meter hurdles (17.73) and 300-meter hurdles (43.71); and he teamed with Dane Nauman, Mason Duncan and Gavin Hankins to win the 4x100-meter relay (47.96).

Gracyn Zerby took first in the pole vault (6-8) for the Scots.

The Mount Gilead girls team took first in seven events and the boys team added top honors in three others. Individually, Asia Jones finished first in the 100-meter (14.27) and 200-meter dashes (28.79), Emily Hanft won the 1,600-meter run (5:26.35), and Allison Johnson won the 3,200-meter run (10:52.06)

The girls 4x100-meter relay team (55.58) of Jones, Grace Mowery, Madilyn Elson and Isabela Schroeter; the 4x400-meter run team (4:38.36) of Johnson, Selia Shipman, Olivia Millisor and Tatum Neal; and the 4x800-meter relay team (11:30.00) of Hamft, Shipman, Neal and Michaela McGill each took first.

Michael Snopik took first in the 1,600-meter run (4:37.36) and the 3,200-meter run (10:17.38) for the MG boys team.

The boys 4x200-meter relay team (1:39.77) of Ryan Davis, Quade Harris, Seamus Walsh and Matthew Bland also took first.

The Bulldogs finished first in the girls 400-meter (Alexandria Magers, 1:06.66) and the boys 800-meter (Nathan Streby, 2:05.28).

The boys 4x400-meter team (3:47.14) of Streby, Dillon Moreland, Seth Madden and Chase Darr; and the boys 4x800-meter team (9:00.35) of Streby, Moreland, Madden and Samuel Whitney also took first for East Knox.

Loey Hallabrin took top honors in the 800-meter (2:39.30) to lead the host Pirates.

Newark Invitational

Erich Rhodeback went for the trifecta, taking first place in three events to lead Mount Vernon at the Newark Invitational on Saturday, April 4, in Newark.

Rhodeback won the 110-meter hurdles (15.22 seconds), the 300-meter hurdles (39.73) and the long jump (20 feet, 2.5 inches) to lead the Yellow Jackets.

The Jacket boys team finished fourth out of eight teams with 86 points, behind winner Thomas Worthington (139).

McKenna Brokaw took second in the 400-meter (1:03.34) and the high jump (4-6) to lead the Mount Vernon girls team (86) to second place out of eight teams, behind winner Granville (123).

Five Yellow Jackets had third-place finishes: Amaris Middleton in the 200-meter (28.73), Marissa Rutter in the 100-meter hurdles (17.78), Naveah Williams in the shot put (31-10.5), Stella Bainbridge in the discus (105-03) and the 4x200-meter relay team (1:55.64) of Middleton, Rutter, Sara Phillips and Alexis Strong.

Logan Eggert finished third in the 1,600-meter run (4:49.39).

Bucyrus Elks Invitational

Celeste Swihart took first place in the pole vault (9 feet) for Fredericktown at the Elks Invitational on Saturday, April 3, in Bucyrus.

Swihart’s effort helped the Freddie girls team to a seventh-place finish (49 points) out of 14 teams, behind winner Oak Harbor (115). Northmor (8) was 13th.

The Northmor boys team (26) was eighth and Fredericktown (5) finished 15th out of 15 teams, behind winner Crestview (126).

Elsa Hoam was also solid for the Freddies, running the 3,200-meter in 12 minutes, 23.6 seconds to finish second.

The 4x400 relay squad (3:46.88) paced the boys team with a fifth-place finish.

Ryan Lehman led the Golden Knights with a third-place finish in the 3,200-meter run (11:09.08) and a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run (5:03.59).

Rachel Ervin finished seventh in the pole vault (7-06) and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (54.76) to lead the Northmor girls team.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Mount Vernon came close but they couldn’t get over the mountain, falling in three matches at Kettering Fairmont on Saturday, April 3.

The Yellow Jackets (0-6) opened the day with a 25-13, 20-25, 25-22 loss to Worthington Kilbourne. The host Firebirds took a 25-20, 9-25, 25-19 decision in the second match. Fairfield took the final matchup, 25-23, 25-12.

Against the Wolves, Mason Boatright had eight kills; Cooper Carpenter had seven digs, two blocks and two aces; Alex Reddy had 13 assists and Isaiah Jones had seven kills for the Jackets.

Boatright had five kills, three aces and two blocks; Carpenter had five kills; Reddy had 12 assists and two blocks; and Dash Lepley had 12 digs for Mount Vernon against Fairmont.

Against Fairfield, Carpenter had four kills, Reddy had four assists and Lepley had three digs.
