Idle Chatter
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
— Dr. Seuss
As most meeces will tell you,
Or any fine moose —
"What we need to read
Is more of Dr. Suess."
Unless you've got feet in your brains
Or brains in your feet,
Don't be swayed by fake news,
Or the same from the street.
But, I'm absolutely certain,
Or I think that I am
Never, never gonna eat
Any more green eggs and ham.

HB1
CENTERBURG – Mitch McConnell says that House Bill 1 (HB1) is the worst and most dangerous piece of legislation since he's been in office. I agree with him. HB1 will not require any photo ID in order to vote, as well as let people register to vote on voting day without any form of identification. It also allows ballots to arrive and be counted up to 10 days after election day. How about ballot harvesting where anyone could bring ballots into the board of elections in a simple box, bag, etc.; allowing ample opportunity for them to be altered? Or maybe forcing taxpayers to vote for election campaigns whether they agree with the candidate or not? HB1 would do all of this and more.
This bill wants the federal government to run the election instead of the states. Let's see how the feds are doing at running the country now. Thousands of jobs were lost through the loss of the Keystone pipeline, resulting in a rise in gas prices and families suddenly without an income. Our poor border states are being overrun with thousands of illegal immigrants (who could be bringing in COVID). Even though Trump made sure there were troops to help out on Jan. 6 in case of trouble, Nancy Pelosi refused to enlist their help when it was desperately needed. I don't know about you, but having our elections put in the hands of the federal government certainly does not build up my confidence in the election system.
HB1 is totally unconstitutional! In fact, the threat to our elections is so serious that 20 state attorneys general have written to House and Senate leadership, urging them to re-read the Constitution and drop this partisan heist.
Our Founders limited Congress's role in conducting our elections for good reason: They wanted elections to be administered closest to the people, free from the undue influence of the national government.
Contact Sen. Sherrod Brown (brown.senate.gov/contact/email) and Sen. Rob Portman (portman.senate.gov/meet/contact) to let them know how you feel about HB1.
