MOUNT VERNON – Dr. Margie Bennett, Knox County Career Center (KCCC) School Board member, was recently named recipient of the 2021 Ohio School Board Association (OSBA) Service Award.
The OSBA Service Award is a distinct award and is part of OSBA’s new STAR Awards Program. STAR stand for service, training, aptitude and recognition.
The OSBA Service Award is presented to a very select group, a recent press release from KCCC said. Of the more than 3,400 board members in Ohio, only 12 will receive the honor in 2021.
“I am surprised and humbled to be among the first Ohio school board members to receive OSBA’s new STAR award,” Bennett said in the press release. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to serve the Mount Vernon community on the two boards of education — MVCS and KCCC — along with their outstanding teachers, staff, administrators and board members, who truly care about students.
“I feel very blessed and am grateful,” she added.
OSBA officially recognized Service Award recipients at the virtual Central Region Spring Conference held on March 10.
“Dr. Bennett is very active with OSBA and serves on our board and also the Mount Vernon City School District Board,” said Kathy Greenich, KCCC Superintendent. “She is always reading and learning to stay up to date on education. This award is not a surprise to anyone that works with Dr. Bennett.”
