Highland's Laracuente takes 3 state titles at OATCCC meet

Highland sophomore Juliette Laracuente won state titles in three events at the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches indoor track and field meet.

Laracuente, who competed in the Division II/III meet on Friday, March 5, took first place in the high jump (5-feet, 6-inches), the long jump (17-7.0) and the triple jump (36-1.50). The Fighting Scots’ girls team finished third out of 54 teams with 35 points, behind winner Gates Mills Gilmour Academy (55).

Mount Gilead’s Allison Johnson took home gold in two events, and Centerburg’s Ben Riegel took home the top prize in one.

Johnson won the 800-meter (with a time of 2 minutes, 12.72 seconds) and 1,600-meter runs (5:01.25) for Mount Gilead’s girls team, which finished eighth. Teammate Emily Hanft was fourth in the 1,600-meter (5:14.97).

Riegel won the shot put with a throw of 55-8.25, while teammate Ian McKnight was 13th (42-10.0) for the Trojans, who finished in a five-way tie for 17th with 12 points, behind champion Cleveland Glenville (51).

Mount Vernon had three individuals and a relay team set new personal records in the Division state meet on Saturday, March 6.

Makena Laslo was seeded 39th heading into the meet. She beat her personal record by four inches to finish 16th in the pole vault (9-0). Anna Dinnen finished 13th in the weight throw (33-0), besting her previous personal record (30-6.0).

Erich Rhodeback was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.27 seconds, beating his previous best of 8.34. His preliminary time of 8.16 set a new personal record.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Rhodeback, Ethan Young, Damion Blubaugh and Dylan Dowell dropped more than four seconds off their previous PR (3:35) with a time of 3:30.65 to finish 10th.

Also, Rayne Lynds was 23rd in the weight throw (37-11.0) for the Jackets.

Laracuente was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.38), Alexis Eusey was 11th in the shot put (31-1.50), Landyn Albanese was 13th in the 200-meter dash (23.79) and Hunter Bolton was 19th in the 3,200-meter run (10:31.19) for the Scots.

Centerburg’s Gavin Wilson was seventh in the long jump (18-11.0); and the 4x800-meter relay team (9:29.78) of Alex Hayden, Nathan Dickhof, Greg Beard and Gavin Wright was 24th.

Fredericktown’s Ashley Cockrell was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (9.98), Steven Tumbleson was 12th in the pole vault (11-6.0) and Elsa Hoam was 15th in the 1,600-meter (5:39.65).
