Election Fraud
To the Editor:
CENTERBURG – After reading the letters to the editor in the Jan. 16 edition of the Mount Vernon News, I was so frustrated with their one-sidedness that I had to speak up! I am very proud of Rep. Bob Gibbs for voting to reject the certification of the electoral votes! He, along with millions of others, realize that there is definite doubt as to the fairness of the 2020 election. Over 1,000 sworn affidavits of possible election fraud, the sudden lead of Biden in certain states after the voting machines stopped in the middle of the night, and poll watchers being forced to observe from such a distance that it was impossible to see what was going on, put doubt into the legitimacy of the election. Yet the courts refuse to even consider looking into these allegations, and our Congress ignored it. No wonder people are frustrated with the way the elections were run!
However, despite all of this, Trump did not encourage people to riot. In his speech on Jan. 6, he repeatedly used the word "peace" and never asked the audience to riot or act violently.
While I'm sure some Republicans were involved in the riots, ANTIFA had a definite presence there as was confirmed by some of those who were arrested. The fact that the riots started before the people would have had a chance to arrive at the Capitol after Trump's speech; and that rioters came with shields, gas masks and umbrellas (to break window glass); suggests that the riots were carefully planned before Trump spoke.
While I agree that there is no place in our country for violent protests, I do disagree with the reason that the riots took place in the capital on Jan. 6. If Trump should be impeached for simply disagreeing with the election results due to possible fraud, then how much more should Kamala Harris be impeached for supporting the Minnesota Freedom Fund in a tweet to help violent rioters get out of jail and therefore be given the opportunity to do even more damage?
