MILLWOOD – Mary Ellen Reese Tracy, 92, of Howard (Millwood), passed away on Saturday evening, Jan. 2, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 2, 1928, in Millersburg, to the late Elizabeth (Smeeth) and Floyd Reese of Millwood.
Mary Ellen graduated from Howard High School in 1946 and attended cosmetology school in Columbus after graduation. She opened Tracy’s Beauty Shop in Millwood and continued styling hair throughout her life and making many friends. She also was employed for over 30 years as the beauty shop manager at the Ohio Eastern Star home. She was a member of the Millwood Presbyterian Church and the Rake and Hoe Garden Club in Howard.
Mary Ellen enjoyed baking and was well known for her fabulous pies. She loved to spend time with her husband Dick and her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Christy (Mike) Stricker of Granville and Laura (Ken) Chapin of Mount Vernon; her grandchildren, Eric Stricker of Granville, Tracy (Mark) Sims of Sylvania and Nick (Laura) Chapin of Ostrander; her great-grandchildren, Maya Sims, Jacob Sims, Madison Chapin and Morgan Chapin; and her brother, Loren Reese of Millwood.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Tracy; and her sister, Dorothy Reese Meenan.
In keeping with Mary Ellen’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will announce a Celebration of Life service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice or to the Knox County Animal Shelter.
